Piano Sculptures
We grow up looking at something like a piano but only see the wood case and some black & white Keys. But a different beauty lay within. Fabricated wood pieces that work together with springs and wires; beautiful hand painted cast iron inner frames; hard copper wires and soft, coloured felt pads all create the visual music inside. I strive to reveal these elements in a new way that allows the pieces to still work together in a fresh repurposed way.

Shells & Crows
Over a plate of "Happy Hour" Oysters I became fascinated with the beautiful, organic colour and texture of the oyster shells. I arranged to get the shells before they reached the green bin and began the exploration of these beautiful natural materials. This journey continues. (see Commissions)
My neighbourhood is filled with crows. Flying. Cawing. Chasing. Scavenging.
They are a constant. Watching them is mesmerizing. I love when they all fly home to roost at night right over my house. Love crows.
From my early years spending time at the cabin on Big Stone Bay, near Kenora, I remember the birch trees that populated the forest. I peeled the bark to make paper and toy boats. I created my graphic trees from those memories.

Steampunk
Steampunk fascinates me. I love the interplay of sharp edged gear sprockets with curved copper, chain and the circular gears themselves. Metallic paints, rust and texture all work together to create the mechanical visage.

Brutalism & Deco
Cement. Structure. Decay. Nature. Restraint. Cool edges.
I love the unfinished, exposed concrete of so many structures in my city. The geometric angles and surfaces emphasize an honest, uncovered simplicity of an intellectual design. And the restrained edge of Art Deco.

Themes
So many of my works start with a found object or an everyday observation of a simple visual and a desire to reproduce that visual. This is my collection of those things and thoughts.

Sculptures - Wall & Floor
I love letting the materials dictate the final shape of an art work. Not restricted by a panel, the parts extend, push out or float on their own.
